Second annual “East Texas Comedy Festival” this weekend at Liberty Hall | Arts & Culture
From the City of Tyler:
Liberty Hall is proud to announce the second annual “East Texas Comedy Festival” June 14 and 15. The festival will include a contest for “East Texas Funniest Comic “ which will begin at 8 p.m. on Friday, two Comedy Workshops at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, and the final performance will be standup comedy by our headliner comedian, Daryl Felsberg.
This year’s contest features nine standup comics who were chosen by a panel of judges from more than 30 submissions. Friday night each comic will have five minutes to win the crowd over. The winner will be determined by an audience vote and our judges, and will be crowned the 2013 “East Texas Funniest Comic”.
“We have some amazing talent this year,” said Anne Payne, Liberty Hall Manager. “Their chemistry and fast paced brand of improv will make you laugh until you cry!”
Workshops on Saturday include “Techniques of Scenic Improvisation” at 9 a.m. followed by “Building Characters” at 2 p.m. Instructors Chad Cline and Jason Folks are familiar with teaching improvisers and also those without comedic aspirations who want to get out of their comfort zone.
“Chad and Jason are my biggest mentors in improvisation. I am honored to have them teaching the workshops this year,” said Festival Producer, Jamey Whitley.
Saturday night will be infused with comedy from performers such as: Fourth Wall, Tyler native Brandon Davidson, Vinny “The Mullet” Conway of Amarillo and festival standup headliner Daryl Felsberg. Felsburg’s album “Bad Fatitude” has sold nationwide.
Tickets are available online at www.libertyTyler.com for $20 per night or $35 for both nights. Tickets can also be purchased at the door $25 per night or $40 for both. VIP boxes are available to purchase for $150 per night and seat up to four people.
Registration for classes is online at www.libertyTyler.com. Each workshop is $30 or both classes for $50. For more information, call Liberty Hall Manager Anne Payne at (903) 595-7274 or visit Liberty Hall and the East Texas Comedy Festival Facebook pages.
