Cell Phone Photo Exhibit entry deadline approaching

UPDATE: The entry deadline has been extended to November 28! Get your photos in by next Monday to be included in the judging. We can't wait to see your work!

Released by the City of Tyler:

The entry deadline is approaching quickly for participation in an upcoming cell phone photography exhibit at Gallery Main Street in Downtown Tyler.

The exhibit, “Photography: a Cellular View,” will run Dec. 1 through Jan. 3 at the gallery at 110 W. Erwin. Entry deadline is Monday, Nov. 21.

“Just about everyone has a cell phone they can and do use to capture images anytime, anywhere,” said City of Tyler Main Street Department Leader Beverly Abell. “We challenge cell phone photographers of all ages and skill levels to enter this show.”

Photos may be submitted using the following categories and themes: Flora and Fauna: Animals and Nature; Portraits and People; Architecture, Buildings and Places; Essence of Emotion; Music; Seasonal; and Miscellaneous.

Only original photographs will be accepted. Photos must not be subjected to post-photo applications such as Photoshop. Use of in-camera programs such as Hipstamatic is permitted while the photo is taken.

A non-refundable entry fee of $5 qualifies an artist to submit up to five entries.  Full details on entry requirements are available at www.downtowntylerarts.com.

Just as with all Gallery Main Street exhibits, entries will be judged by the Downtown Tyler Arts Coalition’s Fine Arts Jury. Entrants will be notified via email whether or not their submissions were accepted by Nov. 29. Those images selected for exhibit will be printed in a standard format and exhibited in the gallery beginning Dec. 1.

Unique to this exhibit will be the fact that the public can purchase any image from the walls of the gallery for $5 each and take the image home with them that day.

“This exhibit will serve as a fundraiser for the operations of the gallery and as such, we invite the public to come in to see some excellent photography and at the same time purchase a work of art that would certainly make a lovely holiday gift,” Abell said.

Those interested in more information on the exhibit should go to www.downtowntylerarts.com and click on “prospectus.” The gallery may be contacted at (903) 593-6905.

Gallery Main Street is a project of the City of Tyler’s Main Street Department.
