Fundraising Campaign Coming to an End for the Children’s Park of Tyler Phase II,
New Civic Funding Platform, Neighbor.ly Helps Citizens Give.
We would like to invite you to join us in helping complete The Children’s Park of Tyler Phase II.
The Children’s Park, located on the northeast corner of South Broadway Avenue and East Dobbs was the vision of Jennifer Carson but has been fully embraced by the entire community. While grieving the loss of her son Braden, Jennifer’s spirit was lifted while visiting a similar park in Dallas, designed to memorialize a child lost because of a tragic traffic accident. For Jennifer, “to be able to do something, in memory of, allows that child’s name to be carried on. In a sense, it gives some purpose to the brevity of their lives.” She was inspired to bring a peaceful place like this to Tyler. Since 2004, we have hosted numerous weddings, welcomed thousands of visitors using the park as a backdrop for family gatherings and portraits, provided quiet space for hundreds of parents reflecting on the lives of their children, and honored over 425 children with names engraved along sidewalk stones, trees, and statues in the park.
For nearly 10 years, this park has been a place of joy, hope and healing for thousands of families. But we’ve already outgrown it. Our plans call for adding ¾ of an acre of usable space adjoining the park and a remodel and deck expansion of the existing building next to the grounds. We plan to add a meditation garden; additional green space; renovation of indoor and outdoor space to host larger events; and an area for outdoor community events. We are expanding this community treasure!
Now, we need your help! The Children’s Park offers far more opportunity than we ever anticipated and an expansion of the park is needed to accommodate for these unforeseen needs. The City of Tyler has fully supported the Children’s Park from day one and it’s just as committed to the park for Phase II. The City of Tyler recently issued an exciting challenge: For every dollar we raise, up to $127,500, they will donate an additional dollar. Because we’ve already raised about 80% of the total funds needed, your gift can help make this vision a reality for our community– meaning that every dollar you donate will be doubled! We invite you to be a part of this amazing 174 day campaign.
