TYLER, TX (KLTV)- The number is out: the salary a stay-at-home parent would receive if there were a paycheck for the job.
Salary.com says they have placed a number on the all the duties a stay-at-home mom or dad has to do.
We talked to five women who have a combination of eighteen children, including some who are already out of the home.
"We took a huge pay cut when I stayed at home to be a mom, but it was worth the sacrifice," said Shaut-ta Nielson, mother of three children.
As a group, we tried calculating what the salary is for a stay at home mom.
The women discussed different roles of a mother: a chef, housekeeper, janitor, and even a psychologist.
"It's really hard to put a value on what a mother does, because these are all services a mother can pay for, but you can't put a price tag on the values a mother instills in her children," said Mary Mackey, mother of three children.
The woman all agree that teaching values and morals are priceless.
"We're always a role model and an example to them; that really does speak louder than words," said Kristi Evans, who is a mother of five children.
It's ironic that the salary was given shortly after Hilary Rosen made a comment about Ann Romney.
Rosen said, "Guess what? His wife (Ann Romney) has actually never worked a day in her life. She's never really dealt with the kinds of economic issues that a majority of the women in this country are facing, in terms of how do we feed our kids, how do we send them to school, and why do we worry about their future," Rosen stated.
Ann Romney says she feels it was an unfortunate comment. Mackey agrees.
"For her to say that, I think she does not take in consideration the importance and the lasting value of the work a mother does," said Mackey.
Salary.com says stay-at-home moms juggle 94 hrs. of work a week. Their total salary estimation equals $112,962.
