From the Tyler Police Department:

Lt. Rusty Jacks, of the Tyler Police Department, recently competed in the Memorial Herman Ironman Texas race that was held on May 19, 2012 in Woodlands, Texas.

More than 2,200 athletes from all over the world descended on the Woodlands to participate in this grueling event that consisted of a 2.4 mile swim in Lake Woodlands, 112 mile bike ride through Sam Houston National Forest, followed by a 26.2 mile run.

“We are very proud of Lt. Jacks,” said Tyler Police Chief Gary Swindle.  “Fitness is an important aspect of being a police officer and we encourage our officers to stay active.  However, this accomplishment is certainly above and beyond.”

Jacks completed the race in 14 hours and 49 minutes.

“I chose to do the Ironman as a personal challenge and because most people hear the distances and say to themselves - that’s impossible,” said Jacks.

Jacks is the SWAT Team commander and is the lieutenant in charge of the evening shift.
