Texting-while-driving simulator at TJC Nov. 9

Released by Tyler Jr. College:

Texting can be more dangerous than alcohol to drivers, and government officials have taken notice. Laws are being passed in many states to ban texting while driving, and awareness of the danger increases every day.

Thanks to a partnership between Tyler Junior College and an organization called PEER Awareness, the dangers of texting while driving can now be experienced in a safe, controlled environment.

PEER Awareness, a health and wellness company based in Grand Rapids, Mich., will be set up outside TJC’s Rogers Student Center from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, to introduce students and faculty to the AWARE-TXT Simulator.

The simulator allows students to sit in a real car which is suspended and monitored with sensors to simulate real driving.
